Did you hear? The knot is dead! Optimise your boat this year so it works seamlessly and take advantage of your ropes full strength.
Splicing an eye in your rope helps retrain the full strength of the rope while tying a knot will twist the rope in an unnatural way meaning you don't get the same strength it is designed for.
Here are two videos which show you how to put an eye splice into 12 strand dyneema, and how to taper down a rope that has a cover and core.
Tapers are useful where you want less weight in the rope, or where you want it to run through a system with less friction. Think spinnaker sheets hanging outside the boat in light winds, or a halyard that has to go a long way up the mast.
The following rope splicing tools are the ones we recommend for splicing ropes on your dinghy, skiff or catamaran. You can buy them individually or take advantage of a package such as the Kingfisher Dinghy Splicing Kit.
Dig out cores and seamlessly feed ropes through each other. Suitable for 4mm ropes and below.
Dig out cores and seamlessly feed ropes through each other. Suitable for 5mm ropes and below.
All four sizes of D Splicer needle in one handy pack. Simply unscrew the handle and insert a different size needle for the rope you are working with.
Laser cut serrated blades will cut through your ropes with ease. Don't rely on the kitchen scissors, these scissors won't let you down and will leave a clean cut in the toughest ropes.
Splicing needle to grip ropes and pull them back through the ropes core/cover. Suitable for ropes that are 2mm-4mm thick.

A good product efficiently dispatched
The definitive racing watch - my daughter is delighted. Hopefully it will be put to good use in the Uni sailing team. Great service as usual from Sailing Chandlery.
Just the job for mooring warps for my motor canoe. Pleasant to handle and plenty of elasticity. Delivery prompt. Very happy.
Very pleased - strong rowlock at a reasonable price. Prompt delivery.
Quality product. I have used these before, but have learned only recently that replacement O-rings are available. Definitely a bonus!
Delivery was prompt and the goods were well packaged. Very pleased.
Perfect shape for a complicated job and delivery and communications were excellent
The 750ml size is idea for longer outings, particularly in the warmer months. A good quality bottle.
Sturdy well-shaped brim, good stitching. All in all, very good value.
A very robust design with an easy to use valve and attachment ring. It also has a loop to tuck the valve away to stop it snagging on the shroud as it's hoisted which is a nice addition. Overall an excellent float.
Good price, delivered on time.
